As spring approaches, I often think about babies and birth. That's odd, because relatively speaking, not that many babies are born in spring. Perhaps that association stems from nature awakening and being "reborn," so to speak, or... because our little one at primary school always has Spring Fever Week in March (March 21st-25th). Which, as it happens, is actually just sex education.
Anyway, this post is about spring baby happiness because... there are so many wonderful benefits to having a baby in the spring months!

Most babies are born in the fall
First things first. It's quite possible your due date is sometime in early autumn, because... most babies are conceived when it's cold. Fertility doctor Nicolette Vermeulen explained this on RTL News: "In the winter, when it's cold, there's more lovemaking. It's probably nothing more than that." Worldwide, most people are born on September 16th.
Not heavily pregnant in a heat wave
Help, pregnant, what now ? Are you nervous and afraid of all the pregnancy ailments people around you are currently bothering you with? It is understandable, because it is, but don't let it get to you and remember that you're not heavily pregnant in the height of summer—when you're having a spring baby. So, that doesn't mean you have to sit like a boiled egg with your big belly in the blazing sun.
Cozy countdown
Don't listen to all the well-intentioned advice around you. This O'baby countdown calendar is a nice touch, with a practical tip or fun fact about your pregnancy every day. For example, have you noticed that your baby is calmer at night and more active during the day? By week 28, your baby already has a proper day-night rhythm thanks to the hormone melatonin. Very handy for when your baby is born. A super fun gift to give or receive. Available at Zilverdraakje - €13.50
Spring babies are cheerful
Research has shown that spring babies are generally much happier than other babies. It's even said that spring-borns are less likely to develop depression. What a wonderful thought!

Spring babies have stronger health
Research shows that babies conceived in the summer have a lower risk of premature birth. They also tend to weigh more than babies conceived in other seasons. These two benefits contribute to stronger health.
Always a birthday in the spring sun
Having a birthday not right between Sinterklaas and Christmas is really relaxing. That's a reason to be a happy baby. But how wonderful is it when the spring sun almost always shines as you blow out the candles on your cake?! A party in the garden among the spring flowers or... on the beach where no one has to sit in a circle. So much fun!
