The sun is shining, the sky is blue, everyone seems to be out and about... and you? You secretly feel a little overwhelmed. Because even though the outdoors beckons and Instagram is filling up with ice creams, picnics and days out, you mainly feel... the pressure. FOMO (fear of missing out) is lurking.
But what if you turn that Fear into Joy? Welcome to JOMO: the joy of missing out. The joy of not having to be everywhere. Of choosing for yourself, for peace, for things that really make you happy. Especially when things get busier, outside and in your head, it is smart to sometimes hit the brakes.
Me-time is not a luxury. It is self-care. And that ultimately makes you happier, more energetic and genuinely present in the moments that matter to you.
Here are five tips to help you consciously make room for yourself โ without guilt, with JOMO.
1 - Say no to 'fun' that makes you tired
It is wonderful to have people around you, to laugh together and enjoy long summer evenings. But sometimes 'cozy' feels mainly 'tiring'. Think of that birthday party that you actually feel too tired for, or that afternoon at the beach that you dread because your head is already full.
๐ก Tip : You are allowed to say no. You don't have to exhaust yourself to be social. In fact, it is a form of love for yourself (and ultimately for others) if you guard your boundaries. So stay home, put on a comfortable outfit, put on a nice movie and feel how the peace slowly returns. That is JOMO.

2 - Seek out silence, even when everything is bustling
As soon as the sun shows itself, everything starts moving: people go out, children play outside, terraces are full. Cosy, certainly. But sometimes that bustling bustle is simply too much. It is tempting to keep running, but it is more powerful to stand still for a moment.
Go into nature. Find a quiet bench in the park, walk without earphones, listen to the birds. Or lock yourself up at home with a book, some soft music and nothing but your breathing. In the silence you hear yourself again. And that gives clarity.
3 - Plan mini moments of rest
We often think that relaxation only starts with a massage, a weekend away or a Zen retreat. But you know? Peace is in the little things. In fifteen minutes with bare feet in the grass, a cup of mint tea on the balcony, or five minutes staring at the sky while you breathe consciously and calmly.
Give yourself those short breathers. If necessary, put them in your calendar as an appointment with yourself โ just as important as your work or groceries. Because in those mini-moments you recharge. Your head becomes emptier, your heart calmer, and your energy flows again.

4 - Make a feel-good playlist
Music has an almost magical effect. One song and you are back in that summer of your youth, smelling sunscreen and feeling the grass under your feet. Music lifts you out of the madness of the day, and brings you back to memories, dreams or simply a good mood.
Create a playlist with your favorites. Think of happy beats for a dance around the room, calm sounds for a Sunday morning or that one song that always puts a smile on your face. Turn it on, and feel how your mood shifts. This is your soundtrack for a happy day. Are you familiar with the Happlify Happy Playlist ?

5 - Rediscover your summer rituals
Summer used to seem endless. You could draw for hours with sidewalk chalk, make ice cream from lemonade, pick flowers or build a tent in the garden. Why should that be just for children? Rediscover those small, simple things that make you happy.
Maybe itโs reading a book under a tree. Making your own lemonade and drinking it from a fancy glass. An afternoon of creative tinkering without a goal. These kinds of rituals bring you back to yourself โ and remind you that happiness is often hidden in the details. No filters, no likes, just you and the moment.
