🍀 My lucky charm: the San Francisco lucky scarf

Sometimes you don't know at the time that you are collecting a memory. That realization comes later, when you hold the object in your hands and the story comes to life again.

It was a super-hot Fourth of July in San Francisco, years ago. We were wandering through Macy's - not necessarily looking for anything in particular, but more for the cooling air conditioning than the bargains. It was a sale, a mega department store full of promises: deep discount tags, grab-and-go racks and the smell of new clothes that have been wrapped in plastic for too long.

And there it was. Just lying on the floor, almost unnoticed: the perfect Lucky Brand scarf, red, purple and green and nice and big. There was no price tag. “How much is this?” I asked a saleswoman. She shrugged and smiled, “Take it.” Much later, long gone from San Francisco, I thought it might have been a lost scarf, but it was actually too new for that...

A gift, just like that, what a blessing

Anyway, I didn't take the scarf off for almost the entire vacation. Scrolling through the photos, I found the proof, see below. And for years it went with my son - then still a little one - to stay with grandpa and grandma.

The scarf stayed on for the rest of the road trip as you can see, I even won $60 with it in Las Vegas!

The scarf has faded a bit in the meantime. The colours have faded, the fabric has become thinner. But it still lies on the parcel, between the scarves that were bought but never became such a beautiful memory. Because this one? I was given it as a gift from the moment itself.
