The nursery is of course more than just a place to sleep. It is the place where your child grows up, plays, retreats and where sometimes there is a fierce fight with a cuddly toy. And let's be honest, as a parent you just want it to look cozy and nice, but also that it radiates a bit of peace. Because no matter how nice all that hustle and bustle is, sleeping remains important. Many parents therefore choose a theme. That makes decorating a lot easier and more fun. Need inspiration? Here are a few of the most popular nursery themes.
Water and sea
Is your child crazy about everything that lives in the water? Then a room with sea animals is a bull's eye. Think of a large dolphin on the wall, some jellyfish, seahorses and maybe even a friendly octopus. This theme works great for both boys and girls. Try to keep it a bit calm in terms of colours. For example, go for soft shades of blue as a base and combine that with grey, pastel or some light pink. Bright colours are fun at a party, but in a bedroom you prefer something calming. After all, you want them to sleep, not stare at a bright yellow fish all night long. What is also fun is to buy a bunk bed , so that you can put a desk with an aquarium with real fish underneath. So there are plenty of possibilities with this theme.
Prince(ess) and theme
Does your child prefer to wave a magic wand all day long or run around in a glittery dress? Then a princess theme (or prince's room) is perfect for you. Pink and purple always work well here, as do glittering mirrors, crowns on the wall and a child's bed that almost looks like a throne. You don't have to overdo it, but with some clever accessories you can quickly make it feel like a fairytale. Also think about the lighting. A room full of glitter requires a bit of balance. A night light next to the bed is handy, so that they can turn off the light themselves and don't lie in pitch darkness.
Jungle as a theme
The jungle has been a favorite for years and for good reason. It is full of color, animals and a touch of adventure. And let's be honest, how nice is it when your child wakes up every day with monkeys and parrots on the wall? You can really go in all directions with this theme. Green walls, leaves on the ceiling, bedding with tigers or just a quiet base with one striking wall. The nice thing is that you can easily add plants here (fake or real, whatever is convenient) and possibly even a small hammock for that ultimate tropical atmosphere. Children can completely immerse themselves in this and create their own fantasy world.
Whether you go for a cool jungle, a fairytale princess room or an underwater world full of secrets: with a theme you give the children's room that little bit of extra magic. And don't forget, it really doesn't have to be finished in one day. Start small, add something little by little and let your child think along.
