Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken in a wonderfully recreated pink, plastic Barbie world, which must guarantee fun, right? At least for a few hours of nostalgia. I'm talking about the new Barbie movie that will be released in July and I secretly can't wait.

The story is thin (gee): "Barbie and Ken leave Barbieland to find the real world." But that should not spoil the fun. At least not for a real die hard Barbie fanatic like me.

Because man, I used to play with 'the Barbies' a lot. I had at least eight of them and one sad Ken who kept losing his arm, with a whole pile of clothes. A friend of mine could spend hours changing clothes and making up stories. Below are a few that I definitely remember, number 1 being my favorite.

Barbied 80's

1 - Day to Night Barbie (1985)

A CEO by day and at night you could transform her clothes into a sparkly Dynasty look. Even though the hair in my copy was not sewn onto the head properly and her top was fraying, this Barbie appealed to me the most. The sky was the limit with this Barbie, although she often worked way too hard 🤦‍♀️

2 - Peaches 'n Cream Barbie (1985)

I didn't have this iconic Barbie myself, but a friend had it and I thought it was beautiful! The salmon color with the white iridescent body... Although I actually think it's because of the commercial, which we've all seen at least 100 times. Look...

3 - Barbie and the Rockers (1986)

This rocker was by far my second favorite! I really loved everything neon and the glitter jacket. Rocker Barbie was always 'on the road' and only did what she felt like. Of course it was a terrible Jam & the Holograms ripoff. Do you remember that one?

When I look at it that way, I'm actually living my best Barbie life. What I used to love playing with my Barbies is what I do now: be my own rock 'n roll CEO. I'm glad I was spared that sad Ken and I've found my GI Joe for 27 years 🤘

Barbie the movie

As a Barbie fan you should look forward to the film in which Margot Robbie plays the leading role. In any case, the trailers are already a feast of recognition. The pink Barbie house is to die for, the stickered refrigerator, the swimming pool and shower without water and mega hairbrush... See for yourself.

Fancy a real Barbie Night?

Did you get excited about this movie? Then check a Pathé cinema near you. Because July 18 is Barbie Night there, including Barbie goodie bag, snack & drink, Barbie quiz and the dress code is of course 'touch of pink'. Order your tickets here

Do you want more Barbie(house)?

In the video below from Architectural Digest, Margot Robbie takes you behind the scenes of 'Barbie' for an exclusive tour of the Barbie Dreamhouse. When Greta Gerwig was tasked with bringing this iconic children's toy to life on the big screen, she enlisted the skills of production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer. Inspired by mid-century modernism in Palm Springs, they've created a whimsical fuchsia pink fantasy with pink plexiglass stairs and not a wall in sight.
