You know those days when you wake up and just want to pull the covers over your head? Sure, you could give in and wallow in it, but that's not going to make you feel any better. So get up and try to make the most of it. And with these three little tips, you'll definitely succeed!
3 tips for instant happiness
- Have a 5 minute dance party
- Take a walk
- Make a list of all the things you are grateful for
Tip 1 - Have a 5-minute dance party
When you're feeling down, there's nothing better than dancing it all away. Push some furniture aside, turn on your favorite music, and get down to business. You might feel a little self-conscious dancing like a maniac, but you'll find it's a huge boost. Singing along at the top of your lungs is also welcome, of course.
And an extra tip: you can create a playlist on Spotify with songs you know will always make you happy. Then all you have to do is press a button for some instant cheer! By the way, how about the Happlify playlist?!
Tip 2 - Take a walk
This sounds a bit like your grandma telling you to get some exercise and get some fresh air, but you know, grandmas are always right! A (short) walk often makes you feel a whole lot better. Especially now that we're working from home a lot, we don't always get outside enough, and it's very tempting to spend all day stuck in your pajamas at the computer. So, get moving and get out there. You don't have to walk a whole marathon right away; a short walk during your lunch break, for example, can work wonders. Also, really try to avoid all modern stimuli and turn off your phone. Consciously listen to the birds singing and observe everything you encounter. You'll not only feel happier, but you'll also become more creative. That way, you'll be ready for the rest of your workday!
Tip 3 - Make a list of all the things you are grateful for
If Oprah has been doing this for years, it must be a good idea, right?!
Research has shown that writing down a few things you're grateful for every day helps increase your happiness. If you do this for at least a week, this feeling of happiness can last up to six months! By identifying what you're grateful for, you'll feel more satisfied with your life and can also empathize more with others. Reason enough, then, to make this a regular ritual. Buy a nice notebook and start writing. And yes, if you happen to be deeply grateful for a bag of chips, feel free to write that down in it.
