Autumn is the perfect season to cozy up at home. It's getting cooler outside, it gets darker faster (takes some getting used to, right?), and maybe, like me, you're longing to curl up on the couch under a blanket with some cozy candles, a nice cup of tea, and a fun DIY project. This also makes autumn the perfect time to get creative and create some me-time. With the right hobbies, you can not only bring relaxation into your home but also create beautiful home accessories that instantly give your interior a cozy autumnal look.

Curious which creative activities are totally on trend this fall? Here are 5 inspiring fall hobbies you can easily do yourself, with the right DIY kits and hobby materials, or during a fun workshop.

1 - Wood burning: warm autumn motifs on wood

Wood burning (pyrography) is the perfect way to add a personal touch to your interior. Think of burning autumn leaves, pumpkins, or inspiring quotes into a wooden cutting board or wall plaque. The result is rugged, warm, and atmospheric.

Tip : Sand a beautiful tree trunk smooth and burn an autumn design onto it. Place a pretty vase on top with eucalyptus and a branch with berries or other autumn leaves, style it with a beautiful candle holder, and voila: your autumn arrangement is ready.

2 - Get started with thick, cozy yarns

Instantly give your interior a warm, autumnal feel by swapping a few cushions on the sofa or adding a new blanket. Consider terracotta, ochre yellow, or moss green.
Make your own cushions or blankets with this wonderfully thick, chunky yarn from Wolletje Bol, made from thick, organic cotton. And what's even better: you don't need to know how to crochet or knit; you can simply get started with your fingers. Perfect for beginners too!

👉 Tip : Start with a ready-made DIY kit so you have all the materials on hand and can get started right away. You'll have your own pillow ready in under an hour!

NB: You'll likely find this yarn in the IMAKIN webshop soon, as we're likely collaborating (in progress). If so, I'd be happy to change the link to my webshop ☺

3 - Making candles with autumn scents

Nothing says "autumn" like a room filled with the scent of cinnamon, pine, or, my favorite, gingerbread . Making your own candles is easier than you think, and the result is personal and unique. Choose glass jars or sturdy tins as holders and pour your own creations. And if you melt your own candle scraps along with them, you're also being very sustainable.

4 - Making soap with natural ingredients

This is a wonderful autumn activity that you can also do with your children: making your own soap! Choose a time during the autumn holidays, melt the soap, and add things like dried orange, cinnamon sticks, or cloves for a truly autumnal soap. It smells wonderful, too. Or how about making your own bath bombs and turning it into a delightful bath time?

👉 Tip: Homemade soaps also make perfect gifts. Wrap them in kraft paper with twine and a dried flower for an instant autumnal feel!

5 - Clay projects for cozy accessories

Clay and ceramics: You can't ignore them this fall. Claying requires careful attention, perhaps that's why it's become such a big trend? How fun would it be to sculpt your own mushrooms during one of the autumn ceramic workshops at Tante Teun ? Or get started at home with the fine air-drying clay from my webshop. (No oven required). Sculpting the clay is very relaxing and really gives you that cozy moment of calm. I'm completely hooked. And my daughter (9) can easily spend an entire afternoon working with clay. We stamp autumn leaves into the clay for a beautiful print, for example. Or sculpt a bowl with acorns and chestnuts in it.

Perfect for a moment together with a nice cup of tea, maybe even some gingerbread and a piece of delicious chocolate ;-)

Creative relaxation in the fall

Being creative isn't just fun, it's also relaxing. No screens, no rush, just making something beautiful with your hands. Plus, afterward, you'll have made something all by yourself that will give your interior a cozy boost. A win-win situation!
